jamie moorehead’s current personal pottery passion is atmospheric firing
Pottery is a hobby that requires lots of time, patience, and love for the craft. Clay is wedged, and then thrown onto the potter’s wheel where you can begin manipulating the shape. Depending on your desired result, you can carefully create height, add width, and refine your shape. With wood-fired pieces in particular, the specialized kiln is brought up to 2300 degrees by continuously burning wood. While the wood burns, ash floats and settles onto pieces inside the kiln, resulting in unique unexpected patterns/designs. These firings can take up to a few days to reach desired temperatures.
